Declan

My sheltie Declan died unexpectedly early this morning. He had just turned 10 in September- I'm still in a big state of shock, since he was in good health until he developed a cough two days ago. I took him to the vet early this morning with the cough and while we were in the exam room he had what appeared to be a stroke and passed away within a few minutes. It was very quick, and he was in very capable hands when it happened, so if it had to happen that wasn't the worst way. My dad thankfully works right down the road and rushed to the office right after it happened.

I miss you little guy- you're always my best friend.

Wendy, I am so sorry to hear this. In recent years, I have been through this twice. I know how hard it is to lose a beloved pet and on top of that, so unexpectedly. Please know that I will keep you in my thoughts. Email me anytime you want to. I'm here.

soooo sorry, Wendy... I follow your sweet blog faithfully and loved the sleigh riding photo. I'm always as interested in the pets as in the sewing.

I know the grief and shock you must be feeling right now. You and Declan obviously had a special bond and I'm sure you were both better off for having loved each other. Please accept my deepest sympathies.

I'm so sorry, Wendy. He looked like an absolute sweetheart, and I'm sure he went knowing he was loved and appreciated for all his not-long-enough life. My cats send hugs.

Omigosh, Wendy, no! This is just so sad and unexpected. You must be devastated. I'm getting teary-eyed here just thinking about this. Hang in there. —Lindsay T, fellow dog lover who would have to call in sick for a week if her dog passed away unexpectedly.

Wendy,
This is my first visit to your blog. That sweet face of Declan's greeted me and I was so sorry to read the post. I have 2 young toy poodles and a 9 yr. old precious shihtzu. Nothing can prepare us for losing those "family members" can it? Love to you!

I just encountered your blog and am so sorry to hear of your loss. I have had two mutt terriers for 3+ years and am only just beginning to appreciate the joy they bring to me. I can't imagine having them 10 years. I know I will be devastated when they pass on. Please know your friend is in 'doggy heaven'. (Not sure I believe in it for humans, but sure do for dogs!!!)

Awww, so sorry for your loss. I just discovered your blog and enjoyed all the Declan photos...it's obvious he was a much loved (and pretty decadent!) pooch.
